Description

A dark small group piece.

The Piece

A fairly straight-forward tune (Melody/Solos/Melody) with interweaving between the 2 melodic voices.  This piece can grow pretty intensely.  I’d recommend the climax coming during the solos and the last melody being a final climactic release.  We’ve practiced using the final vamp as a mechanism to transition into the next tune in the set, if need be.

The Challenges

The challenges of the solo section involve keeping the rhythmic elements consistent during the solo (and not letting them turn the band around coming out of the solo section)

Keep In Mind…

Keep the solos interesting.  The rhythmic elements shouldn’t stiffen up soloing – I conceived of the rhythmic elements as a melodic feature.  Soloists shouldn’t feel compelled to play so rigidly.
